Getting Started

______________________________________

Here are the 2 documents you need each week.

·        Time sheet blank

·        Expense Sheet blank

Welcome to Timeline Journey Renovations.   My vision for this company is to build a team of men and women who enjoy working together and want to do excellent work.

Here are some things for you to know.

__________________________________________________

·       When you come to my house, always come to the front door. I have a renter in the basement and the side door is their private entrance.

·       Pay day is every 2nd Friday after 2:00 p.m. We might bring you your pay cheque at the job site or you might have to come get it from the office. If in doubt, look in my milk box at the side of the house.

·       Time sheet: Fill in a time sheet every week. The week starts on Friday and goes to the next Thursday.

·       Fill in your time sheet and hand it in or email it every Friday.  If you don’t turn in a time sheet by Friday, you might not be paid for that week on the next pay cheque.  Email it to us if you like.

·       The pay period is always one week behind. For instance; Friday, May 11, 2012 is the pay day. The pay period for that cheque is Friday April 27th to Thursday May 3th.

·       Fill out the Time sheet by Client name. We track all the jobs to help us get the estimating more accurate.

·       You are not paid for your lunch. You are paid vacation pay on every cheque.  You are entitled to a paid break in the morning and in the afternoon. (10 to 15 min each). Please don’t wait for someone to give you permission. If you’re working with others, just work it out together.

·       Expense Sheets: Fill out an expense sheet as you buy stuff. You can either buy it yourself or send in your sheet with the receipts to get paid on pay day, or Ting can give you some cash to buy stuff as you need it.  If you don’t have receipts, she can’t reimburse you.  Keep a running balance from week to week.

·       Subtrade or Employee?: The government says if you work almost all the time for one company, you are an employee.  It’s not a choice. They make me sign you up.  If you think you can be a subtrade, get me a WSIB clearance letter and you can remain a subtrade.

·       WSIB Clearance letter: If you are a subtrade, I have to deduct 8.88% from every hour you work for your WSIB coverage. I have to pay it automatically by law if you don’t have an account.  If you are a legitimate subtrade (meaning that you work for at least 3 different clients on a regular basis) you can get WSIB to send me a clearance letter. If it takes a while for you to get one, I have to take the money off your cheque until it’s done. I can hold on listing you on the reports for a month, then I have to submit it. So get it done fast and save the charges.

·       Swanson’s Home Hardware: Park Street: We have an account there but only at that one store.  If I don’t have your name on the list, they need to phone me to confirm that you can sign for materials there.

·       We have a special account at Home Depot Waterloo, King Street North where you can also get stuff. Check with me on that before you use that account.

·       When I give you a task, always let me know that it’s done.

·       If you have a task and there is still something to do, it is your responsibility to remember to get it done. If I give you a new assignment, let me know it still needs to be finished.

·       Be my eyes and ears.  If a client has a problem or complaint, let me know about it. I depend on you to see problems before they happen.

·       I am always looking for a leader. A leader is someone who sees what needs to be done and takes care of it. A leader is someone I give an assignment to and remembers to get it done. A leader is someone who has a tool at a site and makes sure it gets back to my shop even if someone else works on that site after him. Never assume someone else is going to fix up or finish up your work.

·       Take pictures: before, during and after a job. A leader is someone who has a camera with them all the time, ready to take pictures, without being asked.

Responsibility of the Worker

____________________________________

·        I depend on you to be able to think for yourself and take initiative.

  • We are good to each other and thoughtful with the clients.

  • You are the ambassador on the site and it’s important that the client feels comfortable with you around.

  • If a client asks you to do something that is not part of your job the answer is Sure! And then contact me so I can arrange the extra costs with the client. Our answer is always YES. We are a service company. Do not tell the client to call me. You call me.

  • When you do a job and there is a problem because you did it wrong or because of carelessness or negligence, it is your responsibility to fix it free.

·        You are the eyes and ears of the company. Your job is to listen to the client and do all you can to make it a good experience for them.

·        Clean up. Clean up.   Your job is to keep the work site clean; especially when it’s the client’s home. Their home is their nest. You need to keep it clean.

You are not to take side jobs from clients who are clients of Timeline Journey or people we have done estimates for already. If you wish to do a job for a client on the side and think it will not be a conflict with the company, Ask Steve first.

·        If you take a job from one of Timeline Journey’s clients, that is stealing.

·        Don’t lie or steal. If a customer lies or steals, I drop them as a client. If a worker lies or steals, I fire them.

·        The leader assumes she/he is the one responsible for everything being okay.  If there is something undone, or something wrong, you should be taking care of it.   If you are concerned about the state of the place, you contact me.

·        If you leave tools on the site and they are lost, you are responsible for replacing them.

·        If you work with a tool, it is your responsibility to make sure it gets back to the shop.  For instance, if I have a ladder delivered to a job site for you to use, it is your responsibility to keep track of it and make sure it gets back home.  A leader keeps it in mind and is concerned about it until it gets home.

·        A leader is always looking for more opportunities for work

TIMELINE JOURNEY is growing like crazy right now. We are going to experience some growing pains as we all figure it out together.  If you see ways that can make the company better, I appreciate the feedback.  Let's have a great year together.  Welcome to the Team!   Steve
